Abstract

The objective of this project is to demonstrate the importance of the use of children's literature in the English language through a theoretical and practical vision for Early Childhood students. The acquisition of the English language from the stage of Early Childhood Education is essential due to the required adaptation to a global world where we have to access different cultural, scientific and technological areas. This is the reason for educating teachers about didactic methodologies, techniques and resources that provide quality education in order to cover both the interests and the needs of students. In this sense, children's literature in English is a didactic tool that has great potential in its teaching-learning process, highlighting stories and rhymes. This resource is key in the motivation of learning due to the degree of active participation required in children, while offering a significant context in which they learn basic concepts that must precede the formal learning of the language. The correct use of these didactic resources allows the student develop the four communicative skills that must be developed in the pre-school educational stage: listening, speaking, reading and writing activities. In the same way, children's literature allows us to focus on the two elements that establish the starting point for this teaching-learning process, that is, in oral comprehension and expression. It is also necessary to highlight the importance of the use of audiovisual and technological resources in the context of the ability of children to develop independently and competently in their environment. It consists in teaching professionals converting the teaching-learning process of the English language as a foreign language into an innovative and stimulating process through children's literature in English.
