
AbstractStandard tests for the detection of hidden periodicities in time series are largely ignored by applied workers. Various simple but inappropriate methods are used instead. Therefore a method is suggested which is both simple and appropriate but which requires the prior knowledge of certain characteristics of the suspected periodicity. For illustration, this method is applied to a set of data from a chronobiological study.
