Dichanthium paranjpyeanum Clayton

Abstract

Dichanthium paranjpyeanum (Bhide) Clayton (Clayton 1978: 579) (Fig. 5). Basionym:— Andropogon paranjpyeanum Bhide (Bhide 1911: 516) Lectotype (designated here):— INDIA. Bombay: Castlerock, 21 Oct. 1909, Bhide R. K. 9404(3) [Acc. 89331(BLAT!)]. Note:— Bhide (1911) describing Andropogon paranjpyeanum cited his own collection as ‘In the province of Bombay, Castle Rock, collected by Bhide R. K. in October 1909 ’. Attempts were made to locate the type specimens at K, BLAT, CAL, BSI and MH; however, we could find the collection by Bhide at K (K000245830, K000245831, K000245653) and BLAT (Acc. 89331 and Acc. 89332). All are regarded here as syntypes (Article 9.6 of ICN) and one of the specimens from this gathering (Castlerock Bhide R. K. 9404(3) [Acc. 89331] (BLAT) is designated here as the lectotype (Art. 9.3 of ICN), as it agrees well with the protologue, has collection number, and morphologically more complete with floral and vegetative parts.
