The increasing spread of New Information and Communication Technologies (NICTs) creates the possibility of creation of new ways of teaching and learning, expanding the opportunities for knowledge access, also contributing to the education and social inclusion. In this way, the project was conceived with the goal of using Augmented Reality (AR) as a tool to aid in the teaching and learning of LIBRAS (Brazilian Sign Language). Augmented Reality refers to the technique of inserting virtual artifacts into real-world visualization, in which they coexist in alignment and in real time. Therefore, the project proposes the development of a tool that enables the user to use AR to translate objects, letters and words into the sign language, displaying their translation in three-dimensional models on the screen of the cell phone, becoming useful for both the Hearing Impaired (HI) and those who are not, and it is also used as an Assistive Technology tool for the assistance of deaf children and people who are going through the first contact with the sign language. The software is in the development stage on the Unity platform, making use of software development tools that allow the creation of applications with augmented reality experiences. Studies and bibliographical analyses on the theme will also be carried out in order to guarantee a better scientific and theoretical foundation for the sake of the developments validity and sustentation. Thusly, the use of this technology could potentialize the processes of interpersonal relations appropriation and, with that, broaden the communicative repertoire of those involved, drawing attention to the importance of technology and augmented reality for the teaching-learning process.
