Chemical and Behavioral data for Tetramorium ant species from Cordonnier et al. 2021 Insect Science

Abstract

This README accompanies data_cordonnier-et-al.xlsx Associate publication : Discrimination of conspecifics from heterospecifics in a hybrid zone: behavioural and chemical cues in ants Insect Science M. Cordonnier, B. Kaufmann, L. Simon, G. Escarguel, N. Mondy ****************************** CONTENTS ******************************* The data are in 3 sheets and can be readily imported in any statistical package or spreadsheet program. Please, contact me if you need the file formatted in other ways. This file including a description of the variables. *********************************************************************** Variable names and descriptions Colonies Colony type: Identification of the colony (based on mtDNA cytochrome oxidase I sequencing + nuclear DNA clustering) Colony name: Location and ID of the nest Symp: Nest collected in sympatric (S) or allopatric (A) areas between species X, Y: coordinates of the sampling site PI500: percentage of impervious areas in a 500 m buffer around the sampled nest CLC12: Classes in Corine Land Cover 2012 (CLC 2012©, Copernicus). Aggression tests Matrix of the results of aggression tests between all colonies. - 1: no change in direction or speed of movement, no initiation of new behaviour; - 2: non-aggressive touching, usually with the antennae; - 3: avoidance behaviour, such as a change in walking direction or an increase in speed after contact; - 4: temporary aggressive behaviour, such as biting, pulling, mounting, or rearing; - 5: prolonged fighting. Chemical cues List of colonies used for chemical analyses, with name, and quantity (µg per 5 ants) of each chemical compound identified in the samples. The first line indicates the retention time. Bold columns correspond to the main compounds. n.d.: Compounds not detected. ****************************** CONTACTING ***************************** Contact me at: Marion Cordonnier e-mail: marion.cordonnier@hotmail.com ***********************************************************************
