Improving the chances of success of its ANR project thanks to Open Science

Abstract

Since 2019, the ANR has implemented Open Science requirements (Open Access to publications and Data Management Plan) for projects funded under the 2019 and subsequent calls for projects[i]. These obligations are part of the French national strategy for Open Science, initiated with the National Plan for Open Science[ii] in 2018. If funded projects have obligations, the project coordinators can anticipate them as early as the writing of the grant proposal phase, when they draw up their full proposal. This is a good way of convincing their project evaluators (Scientific Evaluation Panels and external experts) that they are aware of this new policy. It also allows them to improve the viability of their project by identifying resource actors or the means necessary to implement an ambitious Open Science strategy. Anticipating these aspects can also facilitate collaborations within teams and consortia to make Open Science an opportunity rather than a constraint. This guide has a practical aim to help researchers take into account Open Science in each section of their full proposal, but it is not: A collection of ready-to-use sentences or paragraphs, to be copied and pasted into project proposals. A document to be applied in its entirety regardless of project specifics. A document validated by the ANR that replaces or contradicts the policy and rules presented by the ANR in its official documents.
