Bewirtschaftungskonzept der Forschungsdatenspeicherinfrastruktur der DH.NRW (FDSI.nrw)

Abstract

The management concept for the DH.NRW research data storage infrastructure (FDSI.nrw) regulates the allocation of FDSI.nrw storage space by FDM state base services. FDSI.nrw comprises DataStorage.nrw, a redundant S3 object storage system, and DataArchive.nrw for the long-term storage of archived data. The FDSI.nrw management concept is primarily aimed at individuals who operate FDM state-level services and wish to provide storage space on FDSI.nrw. The management concept explains the framework conditions for the allocation of storage space by state-level services, such as a science-led allocation procedure for the allocation of storage space. The possible storage period is clearly defined, as are the supported research initiatives, which include both research projects and data pools. The concept also covers procedures for data recovery of valuable data sets and enabling cooperative use between different institutions. Another important aspect is compliance with the FAIR principles to ensure the reusability of data. In addition, FDM state-level services must publish a selection policy setting out their selection criteria. Transparent reporting figures on usage must be submitted regularly. Finally, the concept describes the criteria for the accreditation of FDM state-level services to ensure quality and sustainability.

FDSI.nrw is funded by the Ministry of Culture and Science of North Rhine-Westphalia (DataStorage.nrw: MKW: 214-76.01.09-7-7937; DataArchive.nrw: MKW: 76.04.10-06 – 2024-6188) and the German Research Foundation (DataStorage.nrw: DFG: INST 222/1530-1; DataArchive.nrw: DFG: INST 222/1581-1). The joint, distributed object storage system for central applications is managed by the FDSI.nrw consortium. The participating universities are RWTH Aachen University as consortium leader, FH Aachen, Ruhr University Bochum, TU Dortmund, University of Duisburg-Essen, University of Cologne, and University of Paderborn.
