2D LIF of Ion Dynamics in a Magnetic Arch and Single-Source ECR Thrusters

Abstract

- Data from: 2D LIF of Ion Dynamics in a Magnetic Arch and Single-Source ECR Thrusters - Authors: Célian Boyé, Stéphane Mazouffre, Jaume Navarro-Cavallé, Mario Merino - Contact email: cboye@ing.uc3m.es - Date: 2024-09-23 - Version: 1.0 - License: This dataset is made available under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International Abstract This dataset contains the raw experimental data employed in: Célian Boyé, Stéphane Mazouffre, Jaume Navarro-Cavallé, Mario Merino, "Two-Dimensional Laser-Induced Fluorescence Diagnostics of Ion Dynamics in Magnetic Arch and Single-Source ECR Thrusters". Which is currently in submission. Dataset description Introduction: The experimental data is gathered by means of a Two Dimensional (2D) Laser Induced Fluorescence (LIF). Both the ion velocity in the x-direction and the z-direction have been probed in the (xz) plane, starting from the exhaust of both the single ECR source and the cluster ECR configurations. Both configuration uses Xenon with 2.5 sccm and 50 W of microwave power on each source. In the single source configuration, the setup origin is set at the tip of the coaxial termination of the source. For the cluster configuration, the setup origin is defined at the crossing between the cluster symmetry plane, the cluster exhaust plane and the cluster horizontal plane. As showed in File "2DLIF_setup.png", the laser injection and the detection are mounted on two Newport linear translation stages with a 10 cm range. Single source configuration: Raw 2D LIF data: The measurements performed in the single source configuration both in the x-direction and the z-direction are shown in File "1ECR_marker.png". The latter comprises both the measurements localisation, a cross-section of the single source ionisation chamber and magnetic nozzle coil and the magnetic field topology. The distinction is made between the Main Population (MP) and the Secondary Population (SP) as explained in the corresponding article (currently in submission). The subfolder "1ECR xdir.zip" refers to the measurements taken in the x-direction, when the subfolder "1ECR zdir.zip" refers to the measurements taken in the z-direction. Processed relative density, ion velocity and temperature: After differentiating the MP and SP populations, their relative density, ion 1D velocity and temperature. The Files "1ECR_xdir_pcd_data.csv" and "1ECR_zdir_pcd_data.csv" contain the aforementioned properties for each population in both directions. Cluster configuration: Raw 2D LIF data: The measurements performed in the cluster configuration both in the x-direction and the z-direction are shown in File "2ECR_marker.png". The latter comprises both the measurements localisation, a cross-section of the cluster sources ionisation chambers and magnetic nozzle coils and the magnetic field topology. The distinction is made between the Main Population (MP) and the Secondary Population (SP) as explained in the corresponding article (currently in submission). The subfolder "2ECR xdir.zip" refers to the measurements taken in the x-direction, when the subfolder "2ECR zdir.zip" refers to the measurements taken in the z-direction. Processed relative density, ion velocity and temperature: After differentiating the MP and SP populations, their relative density, ion 1D velocity and temperature as well as their total in-plane velocity have been determined. The Files "2ECR_xdir_pcd_data.csv" and "2ECR_zdir_pcd_data.csv" contain the aforementioned properties for each population in both directions. Data files The data files are in standard comma separated values .csv format. Many programming languages provide functionalities to load such fields. Single source configuration Raw data The single source configuration raw data is separated through the x and the z-directions: "1ECR xdir.zip": single source configuration in the x-direction. "1ECR zdir.zip": single source configuration in the z-direction. The measurement position varies within the zip files. Report to "1ECR_marker.png" to find the correspondance with regards to the magnetic field. Each file contains 3 headlines. The first column contains the laser wavelength (nm). The second column contains the corresponding velocity (km/s). The third column contains the intensity of the collected signal. Processed data The single source configuration processed data is separated through the x and the z-directions: "2ECR_xdir_pcd_data.csv": single source configuration in the x-direction. "2ECR_zdir_pcd_data.csv": singe source configuration in the z-direction. Each file contains 3 headlines. The first column contains the x position (mm). The second column contains the corresponding velocity (km/s). The third column contains the intensity of the collected signal. Cluster configuration The cluster configuration raw data is separated through the x and the z-directions: "2ECR xdir.zip": cluster configuration in the x-direction. "2ECR zdir.zip": cluster configuration in the z-direction. The measurement position varies within the zip files. Report to "2ECR_marker.png" to find the correspondance with regards to the magnetic field. Each file contains 3 headlines. The first column contains the laser wavelength (nm). The second column contains the corresponding velocity (km/s). The third column contains the intensity of the collected signal. Additional files Additional files are given in order to help the user to determine the measurements with regards to the magnetic field. "1ECR_marker.png": Xe II LIF measurements position for a single source in the z-direction (a) and x-direction (b), overlapped with a cross-section top view of a single source. Blue circles and squares represent respectively the z-direction and x-direction measurements where the MP can be identified. Orange circles correspond to the z-direction SP measurements. "2ECR_marker.png": Xe II LIF measurements position for the cluster in the z-direction (a) and x-direction (b), overlapped with a cross-section top view of cluster. Blue circles and squares represent respectively the z-direction and x-direction measurements where the MP can be identified. Orange circles and squares correspond to the z-direction and x-direction SP measurements. Citation Works using this dataset or any part of it in any form shall cite it as follows.
