Usability im Fokus: Entwicklung und Evaluation eines Web-Frontends für stylo() mit verbesserter Usability

Abstract

In den Digital Humanities ist eine vermehrte Adaption von Strategien zur Verbesserung von Usability in Softwarelösungen zu verzeichnen (vgl. Du et al. 2021, S. 435). Dennoch stellt das Unterfangen für Softwareentwickler*innen im Fach noch eine Herausforderung dar (vgl. Thoden et al. 2017, S. 2). Gleichzeitig erscheint das Thema angesichts der großen Bedeutung von Interdisziplinarität für die Digital Humanities hoch relevant, gilt es doch, Forscher*innen mit unterschiedlichen Expertisen die Zusammenarbeit zu ermöglichen. Das Poster präsentiert als Fallstudie zum Thema nutzer*innenfreundliche Softwareentwicklung in den Digital Humanities ein Web-Frontend für die stylo() Funktion der gleichnamigen R-Bibliothek (vgl. Eder, Rybicki und Kestemont 2016). Die Entwicklung der Web-Applikation orientierte sich dabei an Heuristiken von Nielsen 1994 und wurde mittels eines Think-Aloud Usability-Tests (vgl. Krug 2009) evaluiert. Im Anschluss an die Evaluation wurden allgemeine Empfehlungen für Usability Engineering in der Softwareentwicklung in den Digital Humanities abgeleitet.
