Parmotrema melanothrix Hale 1974

Parmotrema melanothrix (Mont.) Hale (1974a: 337) MycoBank no. 398619 Parmelia urceolata var. melanothrix Mont. (1834: 372) MycoBank no. 459269 Type:— BRAZIL. Rio de Janeiro, 1831, C. Gaudichaud-Beaupré 89 bis (MNHN-PC-PC0722518!, holotype; fide Hale 1965a). This species was reported from Réunion by Hale (1965a) from two collections already cited by Hue (1899) under the name Parmelia melanothrix var. lacinulata Müll. Arg. Examination of these specimens shows that they belong to the newly described species Parmotrema intonsum (see entry for P. intonsum).
