Bericht zur Umfrage "Publikationskosten-Monitoring in Österreich 2024"

Abstract

What is the status of publication cost monitoring, i.e. the collection, processing, checking, analysing and reporting of cost data, at Austrian research institutions? The report on the survey "Publication cost monitoring in Austria 2024" by the Austrian Transition to Open Access 2 (AT2OA2) project provides an overview of the status quo at Austrian research institutions. The report presents the objectives, methods and detailed results of the survey. The results show that awareness of the issue of (open access) publication cost monitoring has increased significantly at the partner institutions since the start of the project. At many institutions, there is now an increased exchange between the organisational units and regular monitoring of publication costs. Further improvements could be achieved through the compilation of publication costs from global and third-party funding budgets, further standardisation of accounting texts and direct access to relevant cost types in the accounting system for those responsible for monitoring.
