The Process of Exporting Robusta Coffee from the Amazon

Abstract

Brazil has a strong cultural bond with coffee due to its importance and historical economic participation in the nation's development. Having a large share in global coffee exports, the country is also among the main consumers of the drink in the world. The predominantly exported grain is Arabica, which is understood as a commodity, with an enormous production scale. There is a trend in the segment that points to an increase in demand for specialty coffees, such as Café Robusta Amazônico, which represents a small portion of Brazilian coffee exports, but as it is considered a special bean, it has a higher price on the market. The Robusta Amazônico special coffee is presented as a quality product, resulting from crosses between species, sustainable and technological production practices, boosting the economy of the Rondônia region, where the grain is mostly produced. The article highlights exports, analyzes data relating to coffee farming as a whole, the segmentation of Amazonian Robusta Coffee and the product's performance on the international market, in order to study the viability and potential to be explored through exporting the grain.
