Vernacular Names: Coastal Tomb Bat. Synonyms: Taphozous (Taphozous) fumosus De Vis 1905. Distribution: N Queensland (Australia), Torres Strait Isls, SE New Guinea. Conservation: IUCN 2003 and IUCN / SSC Action Plan (2001) – Lower Risk (nt). Discussion: Subgenus Taphozous. Includes fumosus; see Troughton (1925) and Chimimba and Kitchener (1991). Tate (1952) included georgianus in this species, but see McKean and Price (1967) and Chimimba and Kitchener (1991). Also see Flannery (1995 a) and Bonaccorso (1998).
