Genus Acanthoventris Ruschel, 2023 (in Ruschel et al. 2023) Type species. Cicada drewseni Stål 1854 (Minas Gerias, Brazil). Remarks. Ruschel (2023) identified specimens of the genus from French Guiana, Brazil, and Peru. There are also records of what had been considered the type species reported from Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay (Metcalf 1963a; Ruffinelli 1970; Sanborn 2011b, 2013; Sanborn & Heath 2014) although these likely represent some of the new species described in Ruschel et al. (2023).
