Nous rapportons la présence de l'espèce rare et en voie de disparition Aetomylaeus vespertilio (Bleeker, 1852) dans l'archipel reculé de Cagayancillo, Palawan dans la mer de Sulu, Philippines. Seulement 1 rapport précédent de l'espèce existe dans le pays, un spécimen juvénile dans le marché Pasil, ville de Cebu en 2000. Lors d'un relevé des requins et des raies dans l'eau à l'île de Cagayancillo en avril 2017, une femelle A. vespertilio individuelle avec une largeur de disque d'environ 200 cm, et une longueur totale d'environ 400 cm a été rencontrée le long du bord du récif à une profondeur de 12 m. Cette espèce a été confirmée par son motif dorsal caractéristique de bandes étroites antérieurement et de taches réticulées postérieurement. Nous confirmons la présence de cette espèce rare et mal comprise dans la mer de Sulu et étendons l'aire de répartition connue actuelle plus à l'ouest qu'auparavant.

Reportamos la ocurrencia del raro y en peligro Aetomylaeus vespertilio (Bleeker, 1852) en el remoto archipiélago de Cagayancillo, Palawan en el mar de Sulu, Filipinas. Solo existe un informe previo de la especie del país, un espécimen juvenil en el mercado de Pasil, ciudad de Cebú en 2000. Durante un estudio de tiburones y rayas en el agua en la isla de Cagayancillo en abril de 2017, se encontró un individuo hembra de A. vespertilio con un ancho de disco de aproximadamente 200 cm y una longitud total de aproximadamente 400 cm a lo largo del borde del arrecife a una profundidad de 12 m. Esta especie fue confirmada por su patrón dorsal característico de franjas estrechas anteriormente y manchas reticuladas posteriormente. Confirmamos la ocurrencia de esta especie rara y poco conocida en el mar de Sulu y extendemos el rango conocido actual más al oeste de lo que se conocía anteriormente.

We report the occurrence of the rare and Endangered Aetomylaeus vespertilio (Bleeker, 1852) at the remote archipelago of Cagayancillo, Palawan in the Sulu Sea, Philippines.Only 1 previous report of the species exists from the country, a juvenile specimen in the Pasil market, Cebu City in 2000.During an in-water shark and ray survey at Cagayancillo Island in April 2017, a female individual A. vespertilio with a disc width of approximately 200 cm, and a total length of approximately 400 cm was encountered along the reef's edge at a depth of 12 m.This species was confirmed by its characteristic dorsal pattern of narrow stripes anteriorly and reticulated spots posteriorly.We confirm the occurrence of this rare and poorly understood species in the Sulu Sea and extend the current known range farther west than previously known.
