Sosyal kaygı düzeylerinin sosyal sorumluluk projeleri ile giderilmesi

Abstract

Social anxiety is the experience of an explicit and constant fear of one or more social situations that involve interaction with unknown individuals or situations in which the individual performs an action while having the eyes of the others upon oneself. The present study endeavours to present how elevated levels of social anxiety are eliminated through social responsibility projects in the process of public relations. For this purpose, the social anxiety levels of the participants were examined in terms of certain variables (gender, faculty, and area of science, year, and the student societies to which the participants were affiliated). The research data were collected through face-to-face interviews with 358 individuals who were members of Selçuk University Student Clubs and Societies. In the study, social anxiety levels were discussed in terms anxieties of social avoidance (18.44%), being criticized (13.56%) and feeling individual worthlessness (8.85%).The findings of the study show that the student societies have a significant effect in eliminating the elevated levels of social anxiety through the social responsibility projects they carry out. Furthermore, although a significant relationship was not found between the anxiety of social avoidance and the anxiety of being criticised and gender, a significant relationship was observed between the anxiety of individual worthlessness and gender. However, it was found out that the social anxiety levels did not differ with respect to the variables of faculty, area of science and year. Finally, the results that were obtained within the scope of the findings of the study were discussed and certain suggestions were offered in the light of the findings.Key Words: Public Relations Process, Anxiety, Social Anxiety, Social Responsibility
