Arqueometalurgia dos artefactos em ferro provenientes da zona arqueológica das Carvalheiras

Abstract

Este trabalho é o resultado do estudo de um conjunto de peças em ferro intitulado “Arqueometalurgia dos artefactos em ferro provenientes da zona arqueológica das Carvalheiras, um local arqueológico romano com uma ocupação desde 70 d.C. até ao século V d.C., que se insere na emblemática cidade de Bracara Augusta. No entanto, os objetos estudados compreendem-se numa ampla cronologia desde o período romano à atualidade. Os objetivos fundamentais a alcançar foram delineados e planeados cuidadosamente numa sequência lógica de etapas: 1) escolha e identificação do local e artefactos a estudar; 2) estudo dos artefactos, sua identificação, caracterização e funcionalidades; 3) e finalmente a caracterização da matéria-prima utilizada. A atenção focou-se nas tipologias e funções, mas também se procurou apurar as cronologias de cada um dos objetos. A escolha deste tema centrado na identificação e classificação de artefactos de ferro pretendeu dar mais um contributo para o conhecimento da zona arqueológica das Carvalheiras em Braga.
