Abstract

In this research, the effect of echo reading method is examined in regards of correcting oral reading errors and improving reading comprehension skills of primary school fourth grade students. The research is carried out with a student selected in proper with the aim of the research from a primary school in Bartın. The student selected for the study despite not having any problems with aspects of mentality, auditory and visual, has reading difficulties. In order to determine the reading errors and reading comprehension level of the student, the reading text called "Old Man and Rich Man" from the primary school fourth grade Turkish textbook certified by Head Council Of Education And Morality was read by the student and when evaluated according to the Error Analysis Inventory, it is determined that the reading level is at the fourth grade frustration level. Then, the third grade level text called "Uncle Shoe" was read by the student and as a result of the evaluation, it is found that the reading level of the student is at the third grade frustration level. Then, the text called "Little Penguin" at the second grade level, which is a lower level was read by the student and it is determined that the student's level is at the second grade level. Training is performed individually in a quiet environment. Each week four hours total 32 hours of education by using echo reading method is implemented to the student whose reading level was found. Each session consists of two 45-minutes class hours. Each session continued on different days of the week in 2 sessions for 8 weeks and was completed in 16 sessions. At the end of the teaching process, in order to determine whether there is a decrease in the student's reading errors and progress in the level of reading comprehension and reading level, the reading text called "Cracked Bucket" at the second grade level, in the second week the reading text called "The Child Who Doesn't Like Night" from the third grade Turkish textbook and the reading text called "Little Mouse and the Lion" from the fourth grade Turkish textbook were read by the student. As a result of the evaluations, it is determined that the student's reading level, which was at the second grade education level, increased to the fourth grade instructional level.

Bu araştırmada ilkokul 4. sınıf öğrencilerinin sesli okuma hatalarını düzeltmede ve okuduğunu anlama becerilerini geliştirmede yankılayıcı (eko) okuma yönteminin etkisi incelenmiştir. Araştırma, Bartın'da bir ilkokuldan araştırmanın amacına uygun olarak seçilen bir öğrenciyle yürütülmüştür. Araştırmada seçilen öğrencinin; zekâ, işitsel ve görsel yönden herhangi bir problemi olmamasına rağmen okuma güçlüğü bulunmaktadır. Öğrencinin okuma hatalarını ve okuduğunu anlama seviyesini belirlemek için Talim Terbiye Kurulu Başkanlığı tarafından onaylı, ilkokul 4. sınıf Türkçe ders kitabından "Eskiciyle Para Babası" adlı okuma parçası okutturulmuş ve Yanlış Analizi Envanteri'ne göre değerlendirildiğinde okuma seviyesinin 4. sınıf endişe düzeyinde olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Ardından öğrenciye 3. sınıf seviyesinde "İskarpin Amca" adlı metin okutulmuş ve yapılan değerlendirmeler sonucunda 3. sınıf endişe düzeyinde olduğu görülmüştür. Daha sonra bir alt seviye olan 2.sınıf seviyesinde "Küçük Penguen" adlı metin okutulmuş ve öğrenci seviyesinin 2.sınıf öğretim düzeyinde olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Öğretim, bireysel olarak sessiz bir ortamda yapılmıştır. Okuma seviyesi belirlenen öğrenciye haftada 4 saat olmak üzere toplam 32 saat yankılayıcı okuma yöntemi kullanılarak öğretim sunulmuştur. Her bir oturum 45'er dakikalık iki ders saatinden oluşturulmuştur. Her oturum, haftanın farklı günlerinde olmak üzere 2 oturum hâlinde 8 hafta devam etmiş ve 16 oturumda tamamlanmıştır. Öğretim süreci sonunda öğrencinin okuma hatalarında azalma, okuduğunu anlama düzeyinde ve okuma seviyesinde ilerleme olup olmadığını tespit etmek amacıyla 2. sınıf seviyesindeki "Çatlak Kova" isimli okuma parçası, ikinci hafta ise 3. sınıf Türkçe ders kitabından "Geceyi Sevmeyen Çocuk" isimli okuma parçası ve 4. sınıf Türkçe ders kitabından alınan "Küçük Fare ile Aslan" isimli okuma parçası okutturulmuştur. Yapılan değerlendirmeler sonucunda öğrencinin 2. sınıf öğretim düzeyinde olan okuma seviyesinin 4. sınıf serbest düzeye yükseldiği tespit edilmiştir.
