Türkçenin etimoloji sözlükleri üzerine bir inceleme

Abstract

Lexicology is one of the most important parts of linguistics and grammare. The history of lexicological studies in Turkish goes back a long way. But not that much for the history of etymological dictionaries. It?s started to be given some works in the fields of Turkish etymology as a subbranch of orientalism in EuropeThere are many etymological dictionaries that have been written by both foreign turcologists and Turkish turcologists. The methods of writing and configurations of these dictionaries are different from each other. The efforts and attempts about writing the etymological dictionaries of Turkish have increased lately. But what are the etymological dictionaries of Turkish? On what counrties and periods does it centre? What kind of methods is used to write them? What principles are used in determining a lexical entry? Which subbranch of linguistics is it related to? What kind of data sources is used? What procedures are followed in choosing samples? All these questions create the starting point of the study. In the study it has been classified the etymological dictionaries of Turkish by dividing them into two parts as internal and external of Turkey; these dictionaries have been treated chronologically. In this study, even if an etymological dictionary is not focused only on Turkish etymology, it has been mentioned the significance of these etymological dictionaries including Turkish etymology. Besides, it is inferred from the evaluations based on scientific researches in this field that the etymological dictionaries in Turkish language field are in development process.Key Words: Etymology, Dictionary, Turkish
