Abstract

Through the sharing of the expedients of the montage process of the solo performance "The butterfly’s nightmare", created by this author and directed by Julia Varley (Odin Teatret), in a co-production between Oposto Teatro Laboratório and Nordisk Teaterlaboratorium, it approaches the unfoldings of the theatrical tradition based on the assumptions of Theatre Anthropology and the practice and pedagogy of Odin Teatret group, highlighting the creation based on the "dramaturgy of [the actress and] the actor" (BARBA, 2010). Studies on drama, action, score, sub-score and improvisation are presented in a historical perspective that culminates in the mentioned group. Several procedures for the survey of scenic materials, scene composition and handling of scenery, costumes, props, text and lighting are focused, always in relation to the actions of the actress and the actor. It discusses the individual creation and the creation in a set on to the elaboration of the materials and their scenic organization, in working modalities in which everyone contributes to the expansion of the expressive vocabulary of the actress, in a pedagogical process conducted by the director. The study also addresses the encounter with one of Odin Teatret's primary references, the Indian classical theater, through an in loco research in India, where the actress studied the Kudiyattam practices, finding there a matrix of the actor's expressiveness which is important for the autonomous creation of the actress and the actor also in the Euro-Western theater. The discussion of the technical and language aspects of this matrix allows us to revisit the principles of Theatre Anthropology and its intercultural basis, observing its applicability in the spectacle already staged, as well as to reflect on other ways of configuring the expressive vocabulary of the theater performer, which leads to the enlargement of the concept of actress and the actor’s dramaturgy.
