Abstract

Discussions on the topics of Agroecology and Food and Nutritional Security (FNS) have been taking place in international arenas for some time, but that are relatively recent in the Brazilian legal system. With the advent of Law no. 10,831, of December 23, 2003, there was the first mention of the term agroecology in national law. A little later Law no. 11,346, of September 15, 2006, the so-called Organic Law on Food and Nutrition Security (OLFNS), which innovated by guaranteeing food a fundamental human right status, in addition to instituting the National Policy for Food and Nutritional Security (NPFNS). Thus, the contemporary concern about the sustainability of agriculture combined with dietary practices that promote health and well-being of the population, when applied to the local context of students from two public elementary schools I in the Eastern Region of the municipality of Tupã, gave rise to the opportune intersection between Agroecology and FNS, giving rise to the following guiding question: how healthy is the food of these students? In view of this, the main objective of this research was established, which is to identify the effect of actions to promote healthy eating on the eating habits of such students. It is a qualitative and quantitative research, based on the theoretical review and collection of primary data in the years 2018 and 2019, to instrumentalize the diagnosis of eating habits. In order to achieve the proposed objective, the action research method was used, which involves specific interventions (educational gardens, handouts and educational theater) with the research subjects. The results showed that there was a significant improvement in the consumption of healthy items such as fruits, vegetables and / or orange-colored fruits and meat and / or eggs, which are vital foods for the development of the students, demonstrating the effectiveness of the actions implemented. However, the increase in the consumption of processed and last processed foods has also occurred, confirming a worldwide trend regarding inappropriate eating habits. The limitations inherent to this type of research range from the subjects' commitment, and support from partner institutions. Thus, a promising path opens up for the promotion of conscious food consumption, in which the local student community can make a transition from the limbo of social inequalities towards the formation of adequate eating habits and a healthier way of life.
