Abstract

The experiment was carried out at the Department of Plant Production of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, São Paulo State University (UNESP), Botucatu, São Paulo State, Brazil, with the objective of determining the yacon yield from the plants originated from rizophores and axilar buds in differents spacements, the carbohydrates contents, and finally economic yield, from June-13, 2001 to January-31, 2002. Treatments resulted from the combination of the interrow spacings (1,0; 1,2; and 1,4m) and between plants (0,8 and 1,0m) with propagates material of two origins (rizophores and axilar buds), and in a split plot experimental design with four replicates. The development and yield evaluation begins 97 days after planting in 20 days intervals, in accordance with biometric parameters as follows: plant height, leaf numbers, leaf area, dry weight of the leaves, total dry weight of the plant and the physiological index: Specific Leaf Area (AFE), Crop Growth Rate (TCC), Leaf Area Index (IAF), Net Assimilatory Rates (TAL) and the Relative Growth Rate (TCR). The carbohydrtaes accumulation was determined too, with the accomplishment of the total yield economic analysis of the tubers production. Results indicated differences between the dual origin of the plants for all characteristics. The plants originated from rizophores showed superior development than that from axilar buds in all physiological parameters. The distance between rows and between plants influenced the production of the aerial parts and the tubers root, with the highest spacings presenting a larger economic profitability. The estimate of the maximum efficiency for the production of the root tubers was obtained with the treatments L1E1Y1 (1,0 x 0,8 x rizophores) and L3E1Y1 (1,4 x 0,8 x rizophores), nevertheless the treatment L3E1Y1 (1,4 x 0,8 x nodal shoot segments), showed the best as... .
