Abstract

The indigenous populations Guarani live in Serra do Mar’s region, mostly in the State of São Paulo, Brazil, in the midle of Atlantic Rain Forest ecosystem, a Biosphere Reserve. One their territories, Aboriginal Land “Boa Vista do Sertão do Promirim”, in Ubatuba-SP, is study object of this work, concerning the soil’s conditions by traditional shifting cultivation. The agricultural handling is characterized by an itinerant system, also known as slash and burn (‘de coivara’, in portuguese), by occurrence the slash of the little patches, around 400-500 m2 each, secondary forest, and its burning subsequent, whose production happens for a period of two the three years, being abandoned (‘pousio’, in portuguese), by different periods. Whose cycle is happened again in other patches of secondary forest, in their agriculture. For certain, that the humid intertropical standard of the soil low fertility has conferred to these aboriginal peoples this practical of cultural matrix, also with support of their mythical values. This traditional technology of shifting cultivation needs bigger extensions of lands, as long ago these peoples had, mainly of the South-East region of Brazil, so that a good one is made possible offers of foods, as well as forest to recover it of course. However, as it is the case of the aboriginal territory presently focused, of miniature extension, for account of politician-agrarian factors, the Guarani way of agricultural production comes directly being affected, to the detriment of the basic feeding and their cultural values, necessarily come back to the presence of the maize (Zea mays) in their religious calendar. Information techniques of these soil physical and chemical parameters, in the depth of up to 0,6 m, had been able to offer data for contribution to the agreement of the Guarani-Atlantic Forest relationships... .
