Osmanlıda mevlid kültürü

Abstract

In the Ottoman state, ceremonies were an important place. In the state affairs, inthe daily life of the palace and on religious days, the ceremonies were regular andglorious celebrations. This has been an indication of the importance the state attach tothese works. It has also been an indicator of its size both inside and outside. With thisaspect, the Ottoman State attached great importance to the celebrations of the Mawlid.Especially in times of the most powerful the official Mawlid celebrations, which wereheld on the 12th of Rabiulevvel, which was considered the birthday of the Prophet, werecarried out in great glory in accordance with the ceremony.Apart from this date, there were also mawlid readings for many reasons. Inaddition to the palace celebrations, Mevlid was celebrated with interest for variousreasons among the Ottoman people. Many mawlid books have been written, but duringthe Ottoman period Süleyman Çelebi's `Vasîle an-Nacât` became famous. In this research, it is seen that there is detailed information about the celebrationsin the archives and chronicles of history especially on the celebration of the Mawlidwhich was held on the birthday of the Prophet and with the participation of the sultan.Although there have been many researches about the Mawlid books written in variouslanguages from Arabic to Turkish, there is not much information about the celebrationof Mawlid in religious and cultural dimensions. For this reason, in our study, we have focused on theexample of the Ottoman State and tried to examine culturally the Mewlidcelebrations which have been made.

Peygamber'in doğumgününde yapılan Mevlid kutlamalarına dair arşivde, tarih kroniklerinde ayrıntılıbilgilerin yer aldığı görülmüştür. Arapça'dan Türkçe'ye çeşitli dillerde yazılan Mevlidkitaplarıyla ilgili birçok araştırma yapılmış olsa da Mevlidin dinî ve kültürel boyuttakutlanışına dair pek fazla bilgiye rastlanmamıştır. Bu sebeple çalışmamızda OsmanlıDevleti örneği üzerinde yoğunlaşılarak yapılan Mevlid kutlamaları kültürel olarakincelenmeye çalışılmıştır
