ABSTRACT THE ACT OF STRIKING COINS IN THE PERIOD OF TİMUR In this work entitled `The Act of Striking Coins in the Period of Timur` by combing the data obtained from the coins and the historical resources we tried to reach to new information and illuminate the history of Timur's large and powerful empire. In the introduction part; the importance of the subject, the difficulties of the subject, previous studies carried out on the subject, methods exploited while writing the thesis and important resources are introduced. In the first part entitled `Political activities in the regions where coins are stroke in the name of Timur`, subjects related to the states that stroke coins in the name of Timur namely their conditions when Timur appeared in history, their relations whit Timur and the political structure in those regions when they came under the rule of Timur are dealt with. In the second part entitled `Activites of Striking Coins in the Pre- Timur Period and while-Timur Period` first of all, the mints of the states mentioned above prior to Timur and the depree to which these mints worked is elucidated. Coins of the states who cntinued to strike coins in their own name, if there are any, after they came under the rule of Timur are demonstrated and some conclusion are drawn. Then whic of those mints Timur continued to operate, whic ones Timur quitted operating, to what extent Timur could exploit them effectively and in addition new mints founded by Timur and which political conclusion can be drawn from all these are elaborated respectively. Last of all, some data and features, as regards significant cities of mint and other mints requirin sounds accounts since where they are is not clear and since they are newly founded of their operators are changed, are given. In the third part entitled `Onaracteristics of Coins in tile Period of Timur` Timur's silver, copper, brass and gold coins and their characteristics their weight and purity standarts, money referms, images found on the coins, several expressions and their contents used for diffirent units of coins in those periods, value comparisons of those different units and their way of exploitation in their period's resources are elaborated. At the end of this part, all avalialgle, characteristics of all coins that are stroke in the name of Timur and the resources are given -together under the title `The List of Timur's Mints`. In this work an attempt to demonstrate the importance of coins -so as to better understand the features of Timur Empire, some of its unclear peculiarities and discover several aspects of this empire and better evaluate it- is made

ÖZET TİMUR DÖNEMİNDE SİKKE BASMA FAALİYETİ `Timur Döneminde Sikke Basma Faaliyeti` adlı bu çalışmamızda, sikkeler ve tarihi kaynaklardan elde ettiğimiz verileri birleştirerek Timur imparatorluğu üzerine yeni bilgiler elde etmeye ve Timur'un kurduğu büyük imparatorluğun tarihine ışık tutmaya çalıştık. Giriş bölümünde; konunun önemi, konunun zorluklan, bu alanda daha önce yapılmış çalışmalar, tezi yazarken kullandığımız metotlar ve önemli kaynaklar tanıtılmıştır. `Timur Adına Sikke Basılan Bölgelerdeki Siyasi Faaliyetler` adlı birinci bölümde, Timur adına sikke basan devletlerin, Timur'un tarih sahnesine çıktığı şuralarda hangi durumda olduğu, Timur ile ilişkileri ve Timur'un bu bölgeleri ele geçirdikten sonraki siyasi yapı üzerinde durulmuştur. `Timur Öncesi ve Timur Dönemi'nde Darp Faaliyetleri` adlı ikinci bölümde, ilk olarak Timur'dan önceki dönemde söz konusu devletlerin darphaneleri ve bu darphanelerin çalışma yoğunlukları ortaya konulmuştur. Timur hâkimiyetine giren bu devletlerden kendi adına sikke basmaya devam edenler varsa bu sikkeler gösterilmiş ve bunlardan bazı sonuçlar çıkarılmaya çalışılmıştır. Ardından Timur'un bu darphanelerden hangilerini işlettiği, hangilerini kullanmaktan vazgeçtiği, bunları ne kadar verimli kullanabildiği, bunun yanında yeni açtığı darphaneler ve bütün bunlardan çıkarılabilecek siyasi sonuçlar ele alınmıştır. Son olarak; en önemli darp şehirleri, yeri tam belli olmamasından, yeni kurulmuş olmasından veya sürekli el değiştirmesinden dolayı hakkında açıklama yapılması gereken darphanelerle ilgili de kısaca bilgi verilmiş ve özellikleri anlatılmıştır. `Timur Dönemi Sikkelerinin Hususiyetleri` adlı üçüncü bölümde, Timur'un gümüş, balar, pirinç ve altın sikkeleri ve bunların özellikleri, ağırlık ve saflık standartları, para reformları, sikkelerin üzerinde bulunan unsurlar, bu dönemdeki farklı sikke birimleri için kullanılan deyimler ve içerikleri, bu farklı birimlerin birbiriyle olan değer mukayeseleriyle birlikte dönemin kaynaklarında kullanımlarına dair örnekler de ele alınmıştır. Bu bölümün sonunda, Timur adına basıldığım tespit edebildiğimiz bütün sikkelerin özellikleri ve bulundukları kaynaklar birlikte `Timur Darphaneleri Listesi` adı altında verilmiştir. Bu çalışmamızda; Timur İmparatorluğunun özellikleri, iyi bilinmeyen hususiyetleri ve değişik yönlerini tanıyabilmemiz ve bu devleti daha iyi değerlendirebilmemiz açısından sikkelerin ne kadar önemli olduğunu göstermeye çalıştık.
