Abstract

In this paper we present new information on the paleoenvironmental context of southern Calchaquies Valleys, through the results of dating by varnish microlaminations over artifacts placed on the quarry-workshop of Ampajango (Catamarca province, Argentina). The obtained data points out two facts. Firstly, the existance of ten wet events, interspersed with arid events during the Holocene in the valley of Yocavil. Secondly, the difference of patina in one same device, which could be evidence of a reclamation process. This coupled with the existence of recycling and reuse in lithic artifacts, allows to consider the landscape as a mound, a natural and social construction at once.
