Superdotación y TDAH

Abstract

El diagnóstico de TDAH en individuos superdotados es controvertido, ya que, esta alteración es asociada con frecuencia a la vulnerabilidad cognitiva (Antshel, 2008). Autores como Goodman, Simonoff y Stevenson (1995) y Rapport, Scanlan y Denney (1999), afirman que la falta de atención y la hiperactividad pueden afectar la inteligencia en todos los niños, independientemente de la presencia de TDAH clínicamente significativo. Contrariamente a estas posiciones, varios estudios, argumentan que la superdotación y el TDAH a menudo estan asociados(Leroux & Levitt-Perlman, 2000; Hartnett et al., 2004; Webb et al., 2005). Manahim y Rohde (2015) afirman que hay una alta frecuencia de los síntomas de TDAH observados ya sea en adultos o en niños superdotados,información que respalda la validez de este diagnóstico en esta población y sugiere la existencia de una afección del neurodesarrollo subyacente a estos síntomas. Estudios comparativos de Antshel, et al. (2007) sugieren que el diagnóstico de TDAH es válido en niños dotados.
