The article discusses Józef Jarema's connections with the European avant-garde circles before and after World War II. The author assumes that the pre-war contacts and creative attitude of the Krakow artist were the source of his great optimism, which was not destroyed by the war trauma. The article proves that the latest biographical research reveals the image of Jarema, who constantly trusts in the progress of civilization and culture, who treated his stays in Paris as an opportunity to broaden the horizons of Polish art of the 20 years (in practice, combining visual arts and theater) and from the 1940S he used forced emigration to continue his search for and expanding environmental relations. His Italian and French contacts allowed him to create international artistic groups and implement plans to popularize art around the world. ; Katarzyna Fazan - wykładowczyni w Katedrze Teatru i Dramatu Wydziału Polonistyki Uniwersytetu Jagiellońskiego oraz Wydziału Reżyserii Dramatu w Akademii Sztuk Teatralnych im.
