Abstract

La introducción de la ultrasonografía en tiempo real en la producción porcina ha tenido un fuerte impacto en la desarrollo de la técnica para evaluar el rendimiento reproductivo del ganado porcino. Con el uso de este es posible diagnosticar precozmente el embarazo, además de determinar la viabilidad embrionaria y fetal; establecer mejores programas de inseminación artificial para cada explotación; reducir el tiempo de introducción de hembras de reemplazo sin perjudicar su rendimiento reproductivo; determinar las patologías del tracto urogenital como la presencia de quistes ováricos o incluso infecciones urinarias, lo que implica un mejor uso no sólo de los animales sino también de la no sólo de los animales, sino también de los empleados y el equipo.

The introduction of real time ultrasound on swine industry has had a strong impact in the development of the reproductive performance evaluation of swine herds. With this technology, it is possible to diagnose gestation precociously, to determine the embryonic and fetal viability, to establish better programs of artificial insemination for each farm; to decrease the time of replacement females without impairing the reproductive performance and to diagnose pathologies of the urogenital tract, like ovarian cysts or urinary infections. Therefore, the mode-B ultrasound represents an excellent tool to improve the reproductive parameters of the farm.
