Zastosowanie teorii językoznawczych w programowaniu: transkrypcja fonemiczna i ograniczenia fonotaktyczne

Abstract

The major aim of this dissertation is to present the process of designing, developing and deploying two applications, Transkryptor and the Phonotactic Calculator, created by the author in the course of his studies of the automatic text transcription and phonotactics. Transkryptor is a tool which allows for quick transcription of an orthographical representation of a piece of text in English into a standardized phonemic notation. The result of the operation can be used for didactic or research purposes. The second tool allows for calculating the cluster preferability within the Beats-and-Binding theory of phonology. Thanks to the application, preferability computations can be performed in a more efficient way. The thesis presents the entire process of development of the applications as it starts with the description of the state-of-the-art knowledge in the areas which comprise the theoretical base for the programs. Then, both applications are described in detail, with pseudo-coded algorithms provided. Finally, the dissertation presents a number of studies (including ones carried out by the author of the thesis) conducted with the help of the tools.
