Aun cuando tradicionalmente la huelga se ha considerado como un mecanismo instrumental a la negociación colectiva, en este artículo se mantiene que esta afirmación no es predicable para la realidad francesa. En este país, huelga y negociación mantienen una relación distinta, en la cual la segunda está desempeñando el papel de evitar o reducir los impactos de la huelga.

If strike has traditionally been considered as an instrumental mechanism for collective bargaining, this paper shows how this claim does not stand for France, where these two key institutions keep a different relationship, in which collective bargaining is being given the role of preventing or reducing the impact of the strike.
