This paper is a reflection on the role of “cooperative learning” in relation to language teaching. A definition of cooperative learning is introduced together with the most important models and techniques; finally, the use of cooperative learning within a task-based, content-based framework is presented as a way of promoting both language acquisition and the development of the intercultural competence.
