Trigonometria Racional

Abstract

Taking into consideration that one of my topics of interest, at the level of math is trigonometry, I used to dig a little more this theme in order to enrich my math culture. The present work focuses on Rational Trigonometry, which is a new approach to Classical Trigonometry, developed by Dr Wildeberger in his book "Divine Proportions-Rational Trigonometry to Universal Geometry". This text begins by explaining what Rational Trigonometry is, being presented with a motivation to introduce the concept of quadrance between two points. Below are presented some properties of quadrance and a known result of Classical Trigonometry-the Pythagorean theorem-adapted to Rational Trigonometry involving this same concept of quadrance. Is introduced the concept of spread between two lines and some results involving this concept. It is a brief comparison between the Rational Trigonometry and Classical Trigonometry. The approach to the topic in the classroom is directed for the 10th grade in terms of quadrance and 11th grade as regards the spread between two lines. There are presented three possible activities to be implemented in the classroom. It is intended that the students consolidate some of the concepts previously seized, attached to Geometry, and feel motivated to think and go beyond, in this wonderful journey that is known as mathematical knowledge.
