Abstract

The present work is composed by two investigations completed in the scope of analysis and evaluation of Early Maladaptative Schema in adolescence. Those are here presented in the form of scientific paper. In the first study, through an AFC, was tested the quality of two theoretical models, the original designed by Young and an alternative schematic organization model, found most representative of the schematic operation, developed from the clinical experience with adults and adolescents (Rijo et al., 2007). The study was conducted with the Young Schema Questionnaire – QEA data (Santos & Rijo, 2009), from an adolescents sample (N=1140). The results showed a better adjustment (χ2(134)=5233.05, p<0.001) to a model in which the schemes are qualitatively set apart in primary, secondary and dysfunctional process/ attitudes. The second study consisted on an analysis of a possible association between the presence of these early maladaptative schemas and the antisocial behaviour in adolescents. For this analysis were used the QEA data, of a general sample (n= 297) composed by three distinct groups: a Non Clinical Group (n=100), an Oppositional Disorder group (n=97) and a Conduct Disorder group (n=100). It was found that, in particular, the Social Undesirability, Emotional Deprivation, Entitlement, Failure, Defectiveness and Dependence schemas emerge associated to antisocial behaviour in adolescents, in a statistically significant way. Both studies stress the importance of this sort of investigations, as well as relevant consequences to the clinical practice and intervention programs they hold.
