Que processos psicológicos contribuem para a psicopatologia? :relação entre auto-criticismo, fusão cognitiva e evitamento experiencial

Abstract

The way people interact with themselves when they do something wrong or fail and the strategies they adopt to cope with their feelings have been, in recent years, object of increasing research among the scientific community. However, the role of internal regulatory processes in psychopathology is still at a preliminary stage and are still many aspects that are unclear. This research appears in this context, whose principal aim is to study the self-criticism (in the form “inadequate self” characterized by an internal relationship marked by feelings of inadequacy, and "hated self", showing a feeling of hatred and disgust by the self) and its relationship to cognitive fusion, thought suppression and experiential avoidance. In addition, we want to assess the differential contribution of these strategies in the development of depression and anxiety, and negative affect in the adult population. To achieve this goal, we realized four studies from a sample of 211 subjects from the general population. The results suggest that hated self and experiential avoidance demonstrate have a greater role in the development of depression and anxiety, whereas the self-critical internal dominated by feelings of inadequacy demonstrates a greater influence on emergence of negative affect. Additionally, cognitive fusion, suppression of thought and experiential avoidance demonstrate is playing a moderating effect on the relationship between inadequate self and psychopathology. For the self-criticism guided by feelings of hatred and disgust for the self, this seems to be moderated only by the thought suppression in anxiety and depression symptoms, suggesting in turn a direct effect independent of the influence of other regulatory processes emotional evaluated.
