Abstract

Juvenile antisocial behavior has increasing in the last years, so in frequency as in gravity. In this way, the present study has in view to analyse the role of parental education in adolescents’ antisocial behavior. To make real this investigation we used one sample of 100 adolescents, residents in Coimbra and Figueira da Foz. The questionnaires were all above applied in school context. The instruments of data collect were: the Escala de Estilos Educativos Parentais (children version), from Oliveira (1994) and the portuguese adaptation of Self-Report Antisocial Behavior Questionnaire (SRA), originally prepared by Loeber and cols. (1989; Portuguese adaptation by Fonseca and cols., 1995). We also collected contextual information relevant to our analysis (age, school grade, sex, familiar aggregate and parents profession). Our results point to a significant relation between parental education and antisocial behavior (the more positive parental education, the less is antisocial behavior in adolescents). Moreover, although the different theories about the influence of socioeconomic patterns and familiar aggregate in antisocial behavior, one more complete intervention, in order to make real prevention among juvenile subjects, should include all of these variables.
