Abstract

[EN] The objective of this study was to utilize the Cornell net carbohydrate and protein system (CNCPS) nitrogen fractions as a basis for estimating forage rumen undegraded protein (RUP) contents. Twenty- nine different herbage samples of irrigated fertilized meadow located at the mountain of León were analyzed for: total nitrogen (total N), nitrogen in trichloroacetic acid precipitated matter (NTCA), borate-phosphate buffer insoluble nitrogen (BFIN), neutral-detergent insoluble nitrogen (NDIN) and acid-detergent insoluble nitrogen (ADIN). These data were used to calculate the partition of nitrogen fractions proposed by the Cornell Net Carbohydrate and Protein System (CNCPS): A (total N- NTCA), B1 (NTCA-BFIN), B2 (BFIN-NIDN), B3 (NIDN-ADIN) and C (ADIN). Herbage samples were also incubated in situ and rumen undegraded protein (RUP) were estimated at 0·02/h, 0·04/h, 0·06/h and 0·08/h ruminal passage rates (RUP2, RUP4, RUP6 and RUP8, respectively). Multiple regression equations based on B2, B3 y C CNCPS fractions only explain 56·2, 64·5, 67·2 and 68·8 %, respectively, of the variation in RUP2, RUP4, RUP6 and RUP8.
