[ENG] The effect of maturity stage at harvest on hay DM, CP and NDF rumen degradation has been studied using 24 samples (from 8 permanent meadows - 4 valleys and 2 altitudes-and 3 cutting times) and the nylon bag technique with three rumen fistulated sheep and 6, 12, 24 and 48 h as incubation times. Hay from the latest cut had lower CP and higher NDF contents, respectively. The CP solublefraction decreased (p0.05). The DM and NDF rate of degradation was unaffected (p>0.05) by the maturity stage and the changes in CP rate of degradation were inconsistent. The role of these changes in the hay rumen degradation kinetic in relation with the rumen microbial population and the voluntary intake of hay by the animal is discussed.
