Abstract

[EN] The aim of this study was to determine the nutritive value of hays of five forage species, two grasses (oats, barley), a legume (vetch) and two combinations of legume-grass forages (vetch- oat and vetch-barley). The species studied were cultivated in a semiarid region of Tunisia (with an average rainfall of 533 mm / year). Protein content was higher for vetch hay, whereas the lowest protein content was observed for oat hay and the lowest in vitro digestibility (IVD) for barley hay. In situ degradability coefficients were lower for barley hay and greater for vetch hay. As for the fibre contents (NDF, ADF), the highest values were observed in barley hay and the lowest in vetch hay. Gas production at 24 h of incubation in vitro, a parameter directly related to digestibility and energy content of forages, was lowest for vetch hay and highest with the mixture vetch-oat.
