The main focus of the traditional approach to teach English as a Foreign Language (EFL) is the English language itself and nowadays most, if not all, aspects of English literature have not been included in the curriculum of the Spanish Secondary Education system. This is unfortunate, as it is my personal belief that there is much to learn from authentic literary sources, therefore this programme has been created around the premise of using authentic literary materials to teach EFL. The use of authentic literary texts as the main material sources of the programme makes this an innovative proposal, as very few teachers have chosen to do something similar and to this extent in a real classroom setting. This means that this proposal is still in its experimental phases and, therefore, it will not be implemented during the full academic year. As it is impossible to predict how the students‟ academic development will be affected by the use of an experimental programme, its implementation will be limited to the first term of the year. This was decided both to ease the students into the concept of learning English through the use of literature and to obtain actual data on the viability of the programme in a real classroom setting. Whether the programme has a positive conclusion or is deemed unsuccessful during its first try, the students will return to the general curriculum of the subject for the rest of the year, following the contents and units of the corresponding textbook, to insure that they conclude the year without falling behind their schoolmates knowledge-wise. Regarding the structure of the programme, it conforms to the one described in the Decreto 87/2015, of June 5, which also corresponds to the structure featured in this year‟s civil service entrance examinations (oposiciones).
