Abstract

Summary: The biological control is traditional in Cuba and its integration to the pest management happened during the eighties decade, with a higher peak from principles of the ninety, favored by the suspension of the external supply of pesticides, technologies and fuels for its application, among other factors related to the called “special period” of the economy of the country. Technologies have been generated for the massive production of biological control agents that are used in diverse crops of economic importance, being achieved their annual liberation and application in more than 1,7 million hectares. The performance in a stable way, from 1973-74, of a net of Territorial Stations of Plant Protection (ETPP) in the main agricultural regions of the country, has contributed to consolidate a territorial system of integrated pest management to the agricultural production, with a high potential to contribute to the technological and feeding sovereignty of people and cities of the country.
