Lexicographical treatment of discourse markers
Authors: Vázquez Veiga, Nancy;

Abstract

The aim of this paper is twofold. Firstly, it offers a general overview of how scholarship on discourse markers in Hispanic languages has developed over time, especially in relation to lexicography. Secondly, it examines the question of how to formulate a lexicographical definition of a discourse marker for a specialised dictionary. For this, we use the dictionary entry prototype which we designed based on the Sense‐Text theoretical framework model (Mel’čuk 1988) and the ideas and principles behind the Dictionnaire explicatif et combinatoire du français contemporain (Mel’čuk et al. 1984‐1999). In our conclusions, we discuss some of the ways in which the information contained in discourse marker dictionaries can be applied in the teaching and learning of Spanish.
