En 1573, tras San Bartolomé, el monarcómaco François Hotman (1524-1590) publicó en latín su Francogallia; libro que con el tiempo se convirtió en una de las bases del constitucionalismo moderno y así de nuestros actuales sistemas democráticos. Esta primera traducción al español está precedida de un estudio preliminar en el que se ofrece un contexto para entender la obra original y el desarrollo de su evolución posterior, en la que sobresale la figura de Robert Molesworth (1656-1725).
