Conversion of forest plantations of non native species into sustainable forest systems in Argentina

Abstract

Important naturalization processes are taking place in forest plantations of non-native pine species established for wood production 15 years ago in Argentina. In this paper a review is carried out on the bio-silvicultural featues of these conventional forest plantations, as well as the consequent naturalized forest systems. These ones are described from the dasonomic point of view, including level of apearance and development, censures of growing stock, and successive steps of competition. After analysing the dimension and perssitence of the biogenic diversification of their components, and their association with the other secondary vegetation step, the author considers that these plant systems, derived from autoreforestation, are becoming a new model for conventional silviculture of forest plantations.
