The objective of this article is to analyze the concept of social innovation and its relevance in addressing contemporary challenges. Highlighting the importance of community participation, sustainability and creativity from a comprehensive approach to sustainable development, the variety of interpretations of the concept is highlighted, from those focused on technological applications to those that emphasize its social dimension. To do this, a review of primary and secondary sources is carried out for the analysis of social innovation from a comprehensive perspective. Different definitions and approaches to social innovation are explored, as well as its fundamental principles and implementation methodologies. In addition, case studies that exemplify the impact of social innovation in various sectors, such as education, health and the environment, are discussed. The challenges and opportunities for social innovation are also analyzed, highlighting the importance of an axiological perspective that recognizes social and cultural values in its evaluation.
