Abstract

L 'engouement actuel pour les technologies multimédia est une conséquence logique de l'invasion du numérique dans tous les secteurs de l'information. Cet essor se traduit par l'évolution constante des IHM vers plus de convivialité, de transparence et de facilité d'utilisation. Les métiers du multimédia apparaissent aujourd'hui dans de nombreux domaines. Dans les métiers de l'information et de la communication bien évidemment, mais également dans les domaines des loisirs (encyclopédies, jeux, visites virtuelles,...), de la documentation (accès au contenu des documents, bibliothèque virtuelle, aide à la recherche d'information,...), des services et du commerce (e-catalogues, communication entre entreprises,...), et de la formation (nouvelles technologies éducatives, auto-formation, e-learning...).À l'heure actuelle où les échanges d'information via le Web connaissent un très grand essor, la nécessité de disposer de formats fiables et puissants de documents hypermédias se fait plus importante. Le langage XML est un métalangage qui permet à la fois de définir des formats de documents et de créer des documents respectant ces formats . En cela, il constitue une solution très satisfaisante aux attentes de formats d'échange de données de la communauté Web . Le but de cet article est de faire une mise au point sur les éléments syntaxiques du langage XML, du modèle de document DTD et des outils de base XPath et XSLT permettant le traitement et la mise en forme de tels documents.
