The Tairona area, located on the nothern and western sides of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta coastal massif on the Colombian Caribbean coasr, corresponds to the territory traditionally atributed to the so-called « Tairona » culture, which developed bteween 1100 and 1600 AD. Despite the archaeological studies carried out since the first half of the 20th century, the nature and cultural composition of the groups attached to this culture and to this territory, described as divided into several provinces, are still poorly understood. The aim oh this article is to present the preliminary results of a doctoral research project that is in line with these issues, proposing a technological study of ceramics from two provinces of the Tairona Area, Tairona and Betoma, with the objective of identifying the culture composition of the region through the analysis of pottery traditions.
