Sözlükbilim-Toplum Dilbilim Arakesiti

Abstract

Contrary to common belief, a dictionary is not a onedimensional reference source with only linguistic features.Considering the relationship between language and society,it is possible to go beyond defining dictionaries as linguisticresources consisting of word lists and to define them as socialresources. It can be said that the interface of lexicographysociety linguistics includes more than one intersection pointwithin the framework of language and society relationshipthat can take place in various forms. In this study, firstly, therepresentation of social classes in dictionaries in the contextof the lexicography-social stratification relationship, whichcan be characterized by the academic tradition, is given, thenit is mentioned how dictionaries, which play an importantrole in the construction of national identity, can be interpretedin the context of language policies. The relationship betweenlexicography and globalization was discussed in the contextof global language conception, and the relationship betweenlexicography and culture was questioned in the focus oflanguage anisomorphism. The four dimensions of thelexicography-sociolinguistics interface, which is handledwith an interdisciplinary perspective, showed that therelationship between dictionary and society emerged indifferent forms. Although it is not possible to reach acomplete and perfect dictionary, the increase insociolinguistic-oriented lexicography research in theliterature has a great importance in terms of therepresentation of society and language in dictionaries.
