In my article, I would like to present a scholar interpretation of Czesław Miłosz’s poem entitled Lokator from the collection Druga przestrzeń (2002). In the research paper, I draw attention in particular to the image of Vilnius emerging from this work, whose history becomes a starting point for the poet to in-depth (metaphysical, cultural, geopolitical) reflections. According to the author, the indicated city becomes a kind of liminal space, a point of contact between opposing structural forces, i.e. the civilizations of the East and the West. Moreover, the unique and turbulent history of Vilnius presented in the poem is stretched—so to speak—between real and mythical, concrete and symbolic time. Miłosz breaks all physical limitations and subtly travels between the past (World War II) and the present (the turn of the 20th and 21st centuries).
