The aim of the article is to propose rules for the phonetic-phonological and morphological adaptation of Portuguese given names in Polish to facilitate their correct use by Polish speakers. The research material consists of 248 given names that are the most popular in Portugal. The starting point for showing the detailed assimilation and its variants (where possible) is the normative pronunciation of each name in the European variety of Portuguese. Pronunciations - both Portuguese and Polonised - have been rendered using the characters of the International Phonetic Alphabet. Such a meticulous approach was deemed necessary because of the significant discrepancies between Portuguese orthography and pronunciation, which are briefly described in the introductory section of the article.
